Chicken Fajita Wraps

asalam alaikum,
My husband wanted me to make him some Chicken Fajita, so that we can clean out some more of the fridge before we leave for the Summer break and also because he sort of liked it.
Anyways, after making him ask me for it a couple of days, I finally started it two days ago.
We had it last night and it turned out good enough for me to have 4 (yeah!!! I wanted one only). If you want a light summery easy to put together food, go for this. I didn't stop to take a picture of the wraps as I was hungry, so try and imagine it in your head. Without further ado, here goes...

Chicken Fajita Wraps (with a healthy twist - sans cheese)
Ingredients for Marination:
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast pieces, slice widthwise in twos
   1 tbsp dried oregano
   1/4 cup olive oil
   2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2  - 1 tsp cayanne pepper (to suit your taste)

Put all these in a plastic ziplock or sealable bag and leave in the fridge (min 8 hours - max 2 days)

Ingredients for Wraps:
Tortillas ( I used normal chapatti pack as not only it is convenient, it is much cheaper and you can get the white or the brown ones). Try the flat bread, if none is available or make your own roti at home.
   Sour Cream
Your choice of salad leaves, I used iceberg lettuse, try romaine or whatever you prefer.
   Tomato, thinly sliced in arcs
   Onion, thinly sliced in arcs
Pepper, red or green, thinly sliced lenghtwise
Avocado, thinly sliced lenghwise (ever since I found out this is one thing good for making the belly flat, I cant get enough of avocados) or make guacamole (dont buy this, the storebought version is not only pricey, it tasted blah plus it has cheese in it - for no rhyme or reason)
Jalapeno pepper, sliced - to taste
Hot sauce (some like it hot!!) - I sadly didnt have it yesterday.
Olives, green or black, sliced - We were out of these also
Fresh Cilantro / Coriander, finely chopped (the secret MUST HAVE ingredient)
Grated cheddar cheese - if you want to, I didnt!

Get cooking!!!
1- Grill chicken on both sides, till cooked in a little oil. Set aside to cool and then slice lenghwise.
2- Warm the roti/chappatti/tortilla on a flat pan or tawa on both sides.
3- Spread it with sour cream. sprinkle with salad leaves.
4- Top with chicken, pepper, onion, tomato, avocado, jalapeno, cilantro, olives, or your choice of veggies and cheese if you are using it.
5- Drizzle with hot sauce, wrap over to make a semi-circle. Serve.

A pack of about 10 tortilla/chapattis are enough for 4 people

Was Islam spread by the sword ?

By Shahid Khan

It is a common misconception with some non-Muslims that Islam would not have millions of adherents all over the world, if it had not been spread by the use of force.

The following points will make it clear, that far from being spread by the sword, it was the inherent force of truth, reason and logic that was responsible for the rapid spread of Islam.

Islam has always given respect and freedom of religion to all faiths. Freedom of religion is ordained in the Qur’an itself: “There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong.” (2:256)

The noted historian De Lacy O’Leary wrote: “History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.”

Another famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book Heroes and Hero worship, refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: “The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one; in one man’s head alone.

There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men. That he takes a sword and tries to propagate with that will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can.”

If Islam was spread by the sword, it was the sword of intellect and convincing arguments. It is this sword that conquers the hearts and minds of people. The Qur’an says in this connection: “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.” (Qur’an 16:125)

The facts speak for themselves

Indonesia is the country that has the largest number of Muslims in the world, and the majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. But, no Muslim army ever went to Indonesia or Malaysia. It is an established historical fact that Indonesia entered Islam not due to war, but because of its moral message.

Despite the disappearance of Islamic government from many regions once ruled by it, their original inhabitants have remained Muslims. Moreover, they carried the message of truth, inviting others to it as well, and in so doing endured harm, affliction and oppression. The same can be said for those in the regions of Syria and Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, North Africa, Asia, the Balkans and in Spain.

This shows that the effect of Islam on the population was one of moral conviction, in contrast to occupation by Western colonialists, finally compelled to leave lands whose peoples held only memories of affliction, sorrow, subjugation and oppression.

Muslims ruled Spain (Andalusia) for about 800 years. During this period the Christians and Jews enjoyed freedom to practice their respective religions, and this is a documented historical fact.

Christian and Jewish minorities have survived in the Muslim lands of the Middle East for centuries. Countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan all have significant Christian and Jewish populations.

Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years, and therefore had the power to force each and every non-Muslim of India to convert to Islam, but they did not, and thus more than 80% of the Indian population remains non-Muslim.

Similarly, Islam spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. And likewise no Muslim army was ever dispatched to the East Coast of Africa.

An article in Reader’s Digest ‘Almanac’, yearbook 1986, gives the statistics of the increase of the percentage of the major religions of the world in half a century from 1934 to 1984. This article also appeared in The Plain Truth magazine. At the top was Islam, which increased by 235%, while Christianity had increased by 47%. During this fifty-year period, there was no “Islamic conquest” yet Islam spread at an extraordinary rate.

Today the fastest growing religion in America and Europe is Islam. The Muslims in these lands are a minority. The only sword they have in their possession is the sword of truth. It is this sword that is converting thousands to Islam.

It is clear, therefore, that Islam did not spread by the sword. The “sword of Islam” did not convert all the non-Muslim minorities in Muslim countries. In India, where Muslims ruled for 800 years, they are still a minority. In the USA, Islam is the fastest growing religion and has over six million followers.

In his book The World’s Religions, Huston Smith discusses how Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) granted freedom of religion to the Jews and Christians under Muslim rule: “The Prophet had a document drawn up in which he stipulated that Jews and Christians “shall be protected from all insults and harm; they shall have an equal right with our own people to our assistance and good offices,” and further, “they shall practice their religion as freely as the Muslims.”

Smith points out that Muslims regard that document as the first charter of freedom of conscience in human history and the authoritative model for those of every subsequent Muslim state.

Everyone now knows that processed and fastfoods are not the bastions of nutrition, but that shouldn’t make these ingredients found inside them any less revolting. This list sends a clear message: when a packaged food contains more than five ingredients and includes some that are difficult to pronounce, stay away. Make a b-line straight to the organics aisle and go for vegan meals or vegetarian recipes instead.

Fertilizer in Subway Sandwich Rolls

While chemical fertilizers inevitably make it into our produce in trace amounts, you would not expect it to be a common food additive. However, ammonium sulfate can be found inside many brands of bread, including Subway’s. The chemical provides nitrogen for the yeast, creating a more consistent product.

Beaver Anal Glands in Raspberry Candy

The anal glands of a beaver, conveniently euphemized as castoreum, are a common ingredient in perfumes and colognes but are also sometimes used to — believe it or not — enhance the flavor of raspberry candies and sweets.

Beef Fat in All Hostess Products

While this may not bother the most ardent omnivore, others are shocked to discover that their favorite childhood treats contain straight-up beef fat. The ingredient comes included a list of other oils that may or may not be used, so it is always a gamble! It is enough to make some of us want to go vegan.

Crushed Bugs as Red Food Coloring

After killing thousands at a time, the dried insects are boiled to produce a liquid solution that can be turned to a dye using a variety of treatments. Some people worry that the coloring — often called carmine or carminic acid — could be listed as a “natural color,” disguising the fact that there are bugs in the product.

Beetle Juice in Sprinkles and Candies

You know that shiny coating on candies like Skittles? Or the sprinkles on cupcakes and ice cream sundaes? Well, they get that glaze from the secretions of the female lac beetle. The substance is also known as shellac and commonly used as a wood varnish.

Sheep Secretions in Bubble Gum

The oils inside sheep’s wool are collected to create the goopy substance called lanolin. From there, it ends up in chewing gum (sometimes under the guise of “gum base”), but also is used to create vitamin D3 supplements.

Human Hair and/or Duck Feathers in Bread

What’s in your morning bagel? If you get it from Noah’s Bagels, it contains either human hair or duck feathers, and it’s your guess as to which. The substance, called L-cysteine or cystine, is used as a dough conditioner to produce a specific consistency. While artificial cysteine is available, it is cost prohibitive and mostly used to create kosher and halal products.

Coal Tar in Red-Colored Candy

Coal tar is listed as number 199 on the United Nations list of “dangerous goods,” but that doesn’t stop people from using it in food. The coloring Allura Red AC is derived from coal tar and is commonly found in red-colored candies, sodas and other sweets.

Calf Stomach in Many Cheeses

In the UK, all cheeses are labeled as either suitable or not suitable forvegetarians because in Britain — and everywhere else — many cheeses are made using rennet, which is the fourth stomach of a young cow. In the United States and most other countries, people are left to guess about the stomach-content of their cheese.

Sand in Wendy’s Chili

Sand is hidden in Wendy’s chili as a name you might remember from high school chemistry class: silicon dioxide. Apparently they use sand as an “anti-caking agent,” perhaps to make sure the chili can last for days and days over a heater. Skip it, cook yourself a quick vegetarian meal instead this Thanksgiving.
